Project Overview
This project was initiated to address recurring flood risks affecting roadway infrastructure and to enhance the overall resilience and safety of the road network. By adopting an integrated engineering approach, the study and design works aim to control flood runoff, protect road assets, and ensure continuous and safe transportation under extreme weather conditions.
Scope of work:
- The project involved creating protective infrastructure to manage flood risks along the roadway.
- The design included side protections, diversion channels, barriers, and culverts to safely direct water flow and reduce flood damage.
- The project involved a detailed analysis of rainfall data, alongside comprehensive morphological, geological, and topographical studies.
- Hydraulic modeling was performed to determine the appropriate dimensions for culverts intersecting flood runoff paths.
- Commissioned by the Roads and Bridges Authority, this project aims to safeguard the road infrastructure in the Arab Republic of Egypt from flood risks.
Outcomes:
The project successfully delivered an integrated flood mitigation solution that enhances the safety and resilience of the roadway infrastructure. Through the implementation of side protections, diversion channels, barriers, and properly dimensioned culverts, floodwater is effectively controlled and redirected, significantly reducing the risk of road damage and service disruption.
