Project Overview
This project involved the strategic planning and feasibility assessment of a major railway corridor in Sinai, aimed at rehabilitating the existing Al-Fardan–Bir Al-Abed line and extending it to Al-Arish, Rafah, and Taba. The study supported national connectivity objectives and the development of the Suez Canal Economic Zone through integrated transportation planning, technical studies, and sustainability-focused evaluation.
Scope of work:
- Develop the master plan for the proposed railway line, including rehabilitation and extension components.
- Develop and assess alternative route options based on technical, environmental, and economic criteria.
- Conduct geological and hydrological studies to evaluate ground conditions, flood risks, and constructability.
- Prepare a preliminary railway alignment using digital mapping and GIS-based tools.
- Analyze current transportation demand and forecast future passenger and freight needs along the corridor.
- Prepare an initial financial and economic feasibility study, including cost estimates, revenue projections, and potential financing options.
- Conduct an environmental and social feasibility study in accordance with national regulations and international best practices.
