Project Overview
This project involved the planning, traffic analysis, and engineering studies for a major urban tunnel at the intersection of Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Road and Al Nahdah Road in Riyadh. Delivered under the Traffic Studies service within the Infrastructure & Transportation Department, the project aimed to alleviate congestion, enhance traffic safety, and improve network efficiency at one of the city’s critical junctions, supporting long-term urban mobility and sustainable traffic flow for Riyadh Municipality.
Scope of work:
- Design a road tunnel to improve traffic flow and enhance the operational performance of the existing road network.
- Conduct comprehensive technical, economic, and environmental studies, including topographic surveys, traffic and road safety planning, and hydrological analysis.
- Prepare detailed engineering and design drawings, covering architectural, structural, electrical, and utility relocation/conversion works.
- Prepare complete tender and bidding documents, including technical specifications, bills of quantities, and contractual requirements.
Outcomes:
- A fully designed and documented tunnel solution that improves traffic flow and road network efficiency.
- Comprehensive feasibility and design studies supporting informed decision-making.
